Posted On October 14, 2015

Former U.S. congressmen Dave Obey and Tom Petri, both of Wisconsin, will be at Silver Lake College to present the Civic Participation Lecture Series at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 29.

The event, which is free and open to the public, will be held in Endries Hall. It will be followed by a question-and-answer session at 7:30 p.m. and a reception at 8 p.m.

The long-time congressional leaders are traveling throughout Wisconsin to discuss how government works and the importance of citizen involvement. They will share their expertise on a variety of domestic and international policy issues.

Among the topics to be discussed are: How Congress works, how a representative balances national issues with district responsibilities, the critical role of public service, and advocating for strongly held positions without excessive partisanship.

The event is presented by the Wisconsin Institute for Public Policy and Service, David R. Obey Civic Resource Center, Wisconsin Humanities Council and Wisconsin AARP. Sponsors are Silver Lake College and the University of Wisconsin-Manitowoc Foundation, Inc.
