Silver Lake College announced that four student-athletes signed letters of intent to play basketball for the Lakers starting with the 2014-2015 season.
The two additions to the women’s team are Danielle Byrum of Sheboygan Lutheran High School and Daisneekqua Thompson of Milwaukee Juneau/Morse/Marshall High School.
“I am very excited that Danielle will be a Lady Laker next season,” said Mike Flentje, SLC’s athletic director and women’s basketball coach. “The coaching staff and I had the opportunity to watch Danielle play several times this past season. She has an excellent outside shot and is a great ball handler. Her shot will give us another weapon on the outside, which will help loosen up the defense and will make our inside game even stronger. Danielle will make an immediate impact on the team (this) season.”
Talking about Thompson, Flentje said: “Daisneekqua is an excellent student-athlete who will play in the post position for us next season. She will bring enthusiasm and athleticism to our team. Daisneekqua was the leading scorer and captain of her team last season, which finished the season 13-1. She fits in extremely well in how we like to play our game. I sincerely believe that she will make an impact on our team. She expressed her excitement to be on our team and will contribute any way she can to improve our record this next season.”
The two additions to the men’s team are guards Jordan Portee of Ridge View High School in South Carolina, and Joshua Paltz of Wisconsin Rapids Assumption High School.
“I like the program and their coach (Phil Budervic),” Portee said in a story posted online at ColaDaily.com. “He has the same mindset as me. (He likes) playing hard on defense and a fast-tempo offense. He believes in working hard and getting better.”
Speaking about Paltz, Budervic said: “Josh brings leadership both on and off of the court and has a great enthusiasm for the game. He comes from a good program and has a great work ethic. We are very happy to have Josh as part of our program.”
