Heiden Hippert creates a painting of Edinburgh Castle while in Edinburgh, Scotland, this past summer.

Exhibit features works created during artist's travels

Silver Lake College will show “Cityscapes,” an exhibit of paintings by guest artist Heiden Hippert from Oct. 12 through Nov. 21 in the Art Hall Gallery on campus, 2406 S. Alverno Road. An artist’s reception will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 16. All are welcome.

The paintings are of cities he visited while traveling through Russia and Europe this past summer, as well as paintings of Chicago.

“Friend and local artist Patrick Burke and I backpacked for seven weeks. My goal was to paint each country I stopped in, documenting my trip through Russia, England, Scotland, Ireland, France, Holland, and the Czech Republic,” said Hippert of Manitowoc.

“Paintings of Chicago mark the beginning and end of the trip, and tie it back to my time in the Midwest. All of the works in the show are painted from life while visiting each place. They are of architecture which was distinct to that area. Notable cathedrals, castles and skylines are among the subject matter that I was drawn to most and chose to focus on for the works,” he said.

Erin LaBonte, SLC Assistant Professor of Art, first encountered Hippert’s works at the Rahr-West Art Museum in Manitowoc.

“It was very clear in his work that he has an academic background,” she said. “He is excellent at rendering form.  I'm looking forward to seeing his new works, most of which were created during his recent travels.”

Hippert graduated with Bachelor of Fine Arts from The School of The Art Institute Chicago May 2015. He graduated from The Florence (Italy) Academy of Art in June 2012 and studied at the University of Wisconsin-Manitowoc. He is a 2002 Lincoln High School graduate.

Hippert has exhibited his works in Manitowoc, Milwaukee and Chicago. Various of his works are in private collections throughout the United States.
