Matthew Soucy has been named Vice President for Academic Affairs at Silver Lake College.
Soucy joined the college in July 2015 as Director of Graduate Education. He transitioned to interim Assistant Dean for the college’s School of Education before accepting the interim role of Dean of Academic Affairs in October.
“Matt has advanced quickly through several roles at the college,” said Dr. Chris Domes, President of Silver Lake College. “The fact he has been able to adapt and move through the ranks of the institution to this role in a fairly quick fashion really speaks to his leadership abilities. He is very knowledgeable and has the trust of his colleagues.”
Soucy said he’s excited to oversee the college’s academic operations.
“The energy that our faculty members have shown around helping students be successful is truly extraordinary,” Soucy said. “Coming to Silver Lake, that was one of the first things that impressed me greatly — the quality and energy of the faculty.”
The native of Fort Kent, Maine, has spent the past 20 years in higher education. Soucy started in admissions before moving into financial aid and then student services. Prior to arriving at Silver Lake College, he spent six years at Bay de Noc Community College in Escanaba, Mich., where he served as Vice President of Student Services.
He’s particularly enthused about this coming fall, which will see the start of Silver Lake College’s new four-year Bachelor of Science in Nursing program, as well as the unveiling of the Work College model. Silver Lake College will be the first Catholic college in the United States — and the first college of any kind in Wisconsin — to be a Work College.
“Matt’s work experience over the years integrates very well with the mission of the college — to help prepare students for successful lives,” Domes said.
Soucy earned his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Notre Dame and is completing a doctorate from Central Michigan University.
