The Silver Lake College instrumental ensembles, under the direction of Jeremiah Eis, Sandra Eithun and Monica Hrudik, announced dates for their 2014-15 season.
The four performing ensembles include the Silver Lake Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, Handbell Ensemble, and String Ensemble. The groups, which are comprised of students/alumni/community members, perform in Endries Hall at the Franciscan Center for Music Education and Performance, located on campus at 2406 S. Alverno Road.
Here’s the schedule of performances:
“The Music of Johan de Meij,” 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 10, 2014
The performance will open with the Silver Lake Jazz Ensemble performing a series of jazz classics. The 50-member Silver Lake Wind Ensemble then will perform arrangements and original works by Dutch composer Johan de Meij. The concert will feature a variety of works, ranging from folk songs to orchestral transcriptions.
“Christmas at Silver Lake,” 7 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 6, 2014
All seven Silver Lake College ensembles (instrumental and choral) will perform at this special holiday event. Following the concert there will be a light reception with additional music and entertainment.
“Tunes to Love,” 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 12, 2015
The Silver Lake Jazz Ensemble will be joined by the Voice Studio and Piano Studio (under the instruction of Dr. Rachel Ware Carlton and Dr. Diana Shapiro, respectively) for this valentine’s celebration.
“Concert Classics,” 7 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 21, 2015
The Silver Lake Wind Ensemble will perform songs by well-known composers of wind band repertoire. Featured works include selections by John Philip Sousa, Percy Grainger and others.
“Young at Heart,” 7 p.m. on Friday, April 24, 2015
All of the Silver Lake College instrumental ensembles will bring out the youth in everyone in their final performance of the season.
