Silver Lake College to hold blood drive June 2

Silver Lake College will sponsor a BloodCenter of Wisconsin blood drive from 2:30 to 6:30 p.m. on June 2 in the Ariens Atrium, located on campus in the Franciscan Center for Music Education and Performance, 2406 S. Alverno Road.

The blood drive celebrates June Dairy Month. All attempting donors will receive a complimentary ticket to Breakfast on the Farm, which will be held from 8 a.m. to noon on June 14 at the Orthland Dairy on South Union Road in Cleveland.

Appointments are preferred, but walk-in donors also are welcome.

The need for blood increases during the summer, while dona;tions typically decrease, according to a BloodCenter spokesman.

Anyone age 16 or older who is in general good health and meets eligibility requirements may donate blood. Parental consent is required for 16-year-olds.

The entire process takes about an hour. Donors should bring a photo ID that includes their birthdate.

BloodCenter of Wisconsin, a not-for-profit organization, is the only provider of blood to hospitals in 29 Wisconsin counties, including Manitowoc County’s Holy Family Memorial Medical Center and Aurora Medical Center, according to the organization.
