The Silver Lake College women’s basketball team extended its home winning streak to 21 games with a thrilling comeback victory Feb. 13 at the UW-Manitowoc gymnasium.
Senior guard Kaela Cheesman of Rolla, Mo., took her game to another level on Senior Night, pouring in a season-high 27 points, including six three-pointers, as the Lakers defeated Grace Bible College 91-79.
SLC (21-4) is ranked No. 5 nationally in the latest United States Collegiate Athletic Association Division 1 poll. Grace Bible entered the game ranked No. 3 in its division of the National Christian College Athletic Association.
The Lakers got off to a slow start and trailed 51-43 at halftime. But they regrouped and pulled away late in the game for the 12-point victory.
SLC senior forward Raelyn Woock of Burnett had her third consecutive double-double, finishing with 12 points and 14 rebounds. Also for the Lakers, junior guard Amanda Kudick of Kewaunee had 18 points, seven rebounds and eight assists, and sophomore forward Danelle Buck, a graduate of Valders High School, and senior forward Courtney Clavers of Brillion each finished with 12 points.
SLC 74, Mount Mary 38
The Lakers jumped out to a 21-8 first-quarter lead and never looked back in defeating their NCAA Division III opponents on Feb. 11 in Milwaukee.
Everyone on the SLC roster scored. Leading the way was Woock (14 points, 10 rebounds), Kudick (14 points, six assists, three steals) and Buck (13 points).
SLC 72, Fox Valley Tech 44
Woock scored 24 points and pulled down 18 rebounds as the Lakers won on Feb. 8 in Menasha.
Kudick added 10 points, three assist and three steals.
SLC 79, Fox Valley Tech 71
Senior guard Denzel Smith of Kenosha finished with 25 points, 12 rebounds and four assists as the Lakers won on Feb. 8 in Menasha.
Also for SLC, senior guard Austin Allen-Walker of Milwaukee added 20 points and nine rebounds, and sophomore guard Jordan Portee of Pontiac, S.C., had 19 points and four assists.
Viterbo 83, SLC 72
Despite 21 points from Smith and 19 points from junior center Pat Zemanovic of Genesee, the Lakers fell short in their home game on Feb. 13.
Allen-Walker added 11 points, while Portee had nine points and junior center Stevens Alexis of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., had eight points.
Viterbo 77, SLC 55
Smith had 14 points and Portee had 12 points, but the Lakers lost on Feb. 3 in La Crosse.
Freshman guard Corey Lloyd of Irmo, S.C., added nine points on three three-pointers for SLC.
