SLC announces exhibition schedule for Lake’s Edge Gallery

Posted On August 26, 2016

The Lake’s Edge Gallery at Silver Lake College will soon showcase a number of exhibits focusing on different art mediums.

“Alone in the Light,” oil paintings by Dale Knaak, running Sept. 6-Oct. 21, will open the 2016-17 lineup.

Big_Tree_web.jpg“The work of Dale Knaak builds upon a strong drawing foundation. The surface of the canvas is exciting, with rich painterly texture and subtle shifts in color,” said Dr. Dionne Landgraf, associate professor of art and art department co-chair.

“My works identify how I see and feel about the world around me,” said Knaak in his artist’s statement. “Created through direct observation, memory and intuition, they are the product of the emotional responses that inspire me. It’s my intention to involve the viewer so they may have an appreciation of my inspiration.”

Knaak, a native of Sheboygan, moved to Milwaukee after high school to study art. He lived in the city for 10 years where he received the basis of his art training. After obtaining a degree in commercial art, Knaak went on to study painting and drawing for five years with the late James Prohl of Atelier Prohl.

Knaak maintains a full-time fine art studio in Sheboygan and divides his time between fine art drawing and painting, commissioned art and commercial mural projects. His work can be seen at the American Family Insurance corporate headquarters, Bank First National, University of Wisconsin-Madison hospitals and clinics, the Johnsonville Sausage world headquarters, Blue Harbor Resort and Hotel, McDonald’s Corp., Woodland Dunes Nature Center and Preserve, J. Gumbo’s restaurants, Coca-Cola, and Sheboygan Chevrolet, along with private collections.
