MANITOWOC, Wis. — Silver Lake College of the Holy Family will present the senior piano recital of Lydia Matthews at 7 p.m. on Monday, April 23 in the Franciscan Center for Music Education and Performance on campus, 2406 S. Alverno Road.

The recital is free and open to the public.

Matthews will perform pieces by composers Domenico Scarlatti, Robert Schumann, Ludwig van Beethoven and Claude Debussy. She and student Hanna Stolper will perform the duet, “Waltz and Tarantella,” from the ballet, “Anyuta,” by Valery Gavrilin.

Matthews is a senior majoring in piano performance and pedagogy, and minoring in English.

Throughout her years at Silver Lake College, she has been a member of the Jazz Ensemble, Concert Choir and Handbell Ensemble. Matthews has played accompaniment for vocal students and the Silver Lake Chorale, as well as local events such as Solo and Ensemble.

She is actively involved in the community by playing for church services, weddings and social events. Matthews began teaching six years ago and discovered her passion and career. She has developed her studio and is looking forward to expanding her business upon graduation.

“Lydia is the first pianist graduating with a Bachelor of Music in performance and pedagogy from the Silver Lake College,” said Dr. Diana Shapiro, assistant professor of piano and chair of the music department. “She has been one of the most highly dedicated and motivated students I have ever met. I am confident she will bring her love for music into the lives of many current and future students of hers.”

This recital is given in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the Bachelor of Music in performance and pedagogy.
