SLC presents student recital on April 24

MANITOWOC, Wis. — Silver Lake College will present the saxophone recital of senior Benjamin Johnston starting at 7 p.m. on April 24 in the Franciscan Center for Music Education and Performance on campus, 2406 S. Alverno Road.

The recital is free and open to the public.

Johnston is a student of Dr. Drew Whiting. His program will feature pieces from Felix Mendelsson, Paul Hindemith, Johann Sebastian Bach and Hank Mobley.

Also performing are Dr. Diana Shapiro on piano, Matt Troyer on trumpet, Hanna Stolper on piano, William Elliott on bass, and Michael Stearns on percussion.

Johnston is studying instrumental performance and pedagogy with an emphasis in saxophone. He is the principal saxophonist in the Silver Lake Wind Ensemble and the Silver Lake Jazz Ensemble, as well as a participant in the Silver Lake Handbell Ensemble and the Silver Lake Chorale.  He is a member of the Manitowoc Marine Band and the Northeastern Wisconsin Wind Symphony. 

Johnston enjoys working with young saxophonists and plans to continue growing his studio and performing after graduation while he prepares to pursue a master’s degree.
