MANITOWOC, Wis. — The Silver Lake Wind Ensemble, directed by Dr. Ron Rivero, will perform in concert at 7 p.m. on April 25 in the Franciscan Center for Music Education and Performance at Silver Lake College, 2406 S. Alverno Road. Cost is $5 for general admission.

The pieces will be taken from a time period ranging from 1956 to 2015.

Among them is John Mackey’s 2015 piece, “Lightning Field,” which takes its title from a work of art by Walter De Maria. The artist has transformed 385 acres of New Mexico desert via an installation of 400 steel rods. Planted in the earth and reaching toward the sky, they call down its power — literally creating man-made lightning storms. Like them, Mackey’s piece speaks to the ancient impulse to summon nature’s power, and the magic such acts unleash, according to the program notes.

Musicians include Alysha Brooks, Corrine Galligan, Alyssa West and Rhonda Valenzuela on flute; Katherine Sohn and Ashli Mims on oboe; Joyell Glocke, Jordan Jesinki, Brandon Meulbroek, Randall Sohn and Ginger Van Ells on clarinet; Nancy Leigh on bassoon;  and Kyle Bush, Benjamin Johnston, Noah Liermann and Marshall Madison on saxophone.

William Elliott, Jack McConnell, Matt Troyer and Ally Wasmer will perform on trumpet; Sister Carol Ann Gambsky, Johanna Harris, Emma Knickelbine and Emily Milski on French horn; Connor Madison and Dan Glaser on trombone; Ben Karnitz on euphonium; Brian Van Ells and Bradley Fahley on tuba; Noah Eckstein, Kim Wichlacz, Tom Wichlacz and Michael Stearns on percussion; and Dr. Diana Shapiro and Hanna Stolper on piano.
