MANITOWOC, Wis. — Silver Lake College freshman Daniel Aguirre of Milwaukee, a human resource management major, is one of the first students to receive the college’s recently introduced Laker Award.
The Laker Award is an opportunity for students, faculty or staff to nominate other students, faculty or staff for being outstanding members of the Silver Lake College community. The award recognizes small acts of kindness, caring, civility and responsibility on campus.
“Daniel truly shows a commitment and responsibility to his job. He stayed and made me a drink even when he was in the middle of closing down,” said nominator Colleen Cooper, director of development and alumni engagement. “Bravo Daniel, and thank you for making the best vanilla latte.”
Daniel was promoted to the co-manager position at Mimi’s Cafe on campus as a first-semester freshman.
“Each and every day, he proves his responsibility and commitment to Mimi’s,” said Tori Jonet, student coordinator of the Lakers Award program. “He is able to manage other students effectively. He is willing to stay late and help customers after his shift, if needed. Daniel has become a valuable addition to Mimi’s Cafe at Silver Lake College.”
