SLC representatives help Salvation Army's Feed The Kids program

Posted On June 16, 2015

Silver Lake College representatives are helping a local program feed hundreds of area children this summer.

They are volunteering for the Salvation Army of Manitowoc County’s Feed The Kids summer food program, which provides nutritious lunches to nearly 500 children in Manitowoc and Two Rivers each weekday through Aug. 28. Free lunches are distributed to children 18 and younger who are in need of a meal.

This marks the 11th year that Sister Margaret Ann Wallander, Sister Christine Stoller and Sister Michaela Melko have been volunteering for the program. Other Silver Lake College volunteers this year include adjunct professor Patrick Gagnon, student Mikayla Opichka and graduate R.J. Skrepenski. Sister Louise Hembrecht of the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity also is in the rotation.

Silver Lake College representatives volunteer 60 to 90 minutes of their time on Monday afternoons at The Salvation Army of Manitowoc County’s kitchen in Manitowoc.

The meals are distributed to children on Tuesdays at five locations in Manitowoc County by Salvation Army personnel. The locations include the Manitowoc Public Library, Southfield Townhouses, Washington Park and Jefferson Elementary School, all in Manitowoc; and Koenig Elementary School in Two Rivers. Milk is provided at each of the locations, as well.

Anyone interested in helping to prepare food is welcome to contact Sister Christine Stoller at christine.stoller@sl.edu or (920) 686-6110.
