MANITOWOC, Wis. — A number of individuals with Silver Lake College ties will take part in the poetry event, “Alive & Well & Living in Manitowoc,” from noon to 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 14 at the Balkansky Community Room of the Manitowoc Pubic Library, 707 Quay St.

The event pairs 10 community leaders with 10 local poets. The idea is that each community leader reads a favorite poem. Their poet-partners then read poems they have composed that engages with or responds to their partner's poem.

Dr. Emilie Lindemann, associate professor of English and English department chair, will be one of two emcees and one of the poets. Erin LaBonte, associate professor of art and art department co-chair, is one of the participating community leaders. Sister Maddy Takyala, a Silver Lake College student, and alumna Emily Cattani will take part as poets.

The event is free and open to the public. A booklet of the poems will be available to all who attend.
