MANITOWOC, Wis. — Silver Lake College welcomes Jonathan Kim of Two Rivers as its new assistant professor of choral music and director of choral activities.
"Jonathan Kim impressed everyone he met on campus with his positive energy and vision,” said Dr. Rachel Ware Carlton, director of graduate music. “He is looking forward to working with our students, and brings exciting ideas and vitality to our institution.”
Kim will be teaching Music History, Solfege and Applied Voice this fall, as well as directing the Silver Lake Concert Choir and Silver Lake Chorale.
Kim is from Tucson, Arizona, where he is completing research toward his Doctor of Musical Arts in choral conducting at the University of Arizona.
He holds a Master of Sacred Music in choral conducting from the University of Notre Dame in Indiana and a Bachelor of Music in vocal performance from the University of California, Irvine.
Kim has conducted choirs at the collegiate and high school levels, as well as various community choirs, opera choruses and professional choirs. He has been the artistic director of the Tucson Masterworks Chorale, the University of Arizona’s Collegium Musicum, and the assistant director of the Grammy-nominated professional choir, True Concord: Voices & Orchestra.
Internationally, Jonathan has conducted performances at the Papal Basilica of St. Peter in the Vatican, Papal Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi in Italy and Stara Zagora State Opera House in Bulgaria.
He also maintains a professional vocal career. He has sung with Opera Pacific, the Fort Wayne Philharmonic as an artist in residence, and performed with many other organizations at a variety of venues.
