SLC's Diana Shapiro, Kevin Sievert, Tom Roberts to perform at Acoustic Fest

Posted On June 29, 2015

Silver Lake College musicians, sharing the bill with Holy Family Conservatory of Music students, will perform at 1 p.m. on July 18 at Acoustic Fest, which will be held in downtown Manitowoc’s Washington Park.

Silver Lake College piano faculty member Dr. Diana Shapiro and two SLC student vocalists, Kevin Sievert and Tom Roberts, will present a program of favorites. Numbers will range from art songs to musical theater solos and duets and will include “Bohemian Rhapsody,” a best-selling single recorded by the British rock band Queen.

Shapiro has won prizes at numerous national and international competitions as part of Piano Duo: Stanislava Varshavski-Diano Shapiro. She has made solo and festival appearances across three continents. For more information about the duo, please visit www.piano-4-hands.com.

Sievert and Roberts are well known to local audiences from their appearances in community theater productions with groups including The Masquers Inc. and Peter Quince Performing Company.

Sievert took second place in the College Division at the Civic Symphony of Green Bay’s Miroslav Pansky Memorial Concerto Competition. He also has been accepted into the Open Jar Institute, a prestigious New York City summer theater program.

Roberts has been active in the community and at Silver Lake College, distinguishing himself as Vice President of the Silver Lake Chorale and as Producer/Director for the Silver Lake College Annual Scholarship Gala.

Shapiro, Sievert and Roberts are a perfect fit for Manitowoc's summer acoustic music festival, said Kevin Crawford, a member of the board of directors for both Acoustic Fest and Silver Lake College.

“Acoustic Fest, amazingly, has had stunning international talent perform in downtown Manitowoc,” Crawford said. “Silver Lake College, in part due to its success in the Kodály Method of Music Education, graduates people from around the world each year.”

Acoustic Fest is celebrating its 20th year. The free, family-oriented outdoor festival features diverse acoustic musicians and runs from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Country music artist Chuck Cannon is the headline performer.

Proceeds go toward a $1,000 music scholarship. Food, beverages, arts and crafts will be available for sale.
