Silver Lake College music education student Paige Owen of Mishicot has been given a chance to shape the future of music education in Wisconsin.
She was recently selected as a member of the State Steering Committee of the National Association for Music Education-Wisconsin Chapter, which represents all music education students in the state.
“I didn’t expect to be nominated. I was very honored. Now that I’m on it, it’s such a wonderful thing to be a part of,” Paige said.
“We came up with very achievable, statewide goals for this coming school year and hope to start implementing them as soon as possible," she said. “We are planning to go out into the high schools and middle schools to interact with students interested into going into the education field, specifically music. We also are responsible for helping plan the association’s state music convention.”
Being a member of the committee provides Paige with the opportunity to represent Silver Lake College at the state level and network with other music students as well as current and retired music educators.
Members of the CNAfME State Steering Committee collaborate with the Wisconsin Music Educators Association, Wisconsin Advocates for Music Education, and other professional organizations.
Paige, a junior, chose Silver Lake College because she wanted to learn in an atmosphere that encouraged spiritual development. Paige also likes its welcoming feel, the dedication of her professors, and its small size, where she was able to get to know everyone more quickly.
She is recipient of the Silver Lake College Gala Scholarship and the Ed and Veronica Saur Endowed Scholarship.
