MANITOWOC, Wis. — Silver Lake College will feature the exhibit, “Watercolors by Keary Kautzer,” from Feb. 26 through March 26 in the Lake’s Edge Gallery in the Franciscan Center for Music Education and Performance on campus, 2406 S. Alverno Road.

The exhibit is free and open to the public between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on weekdays.

Award-winning Sheboygan artist Kautzer paints in the American Impressionist style, with limited hues to set a mood that helps draw the viewer in. It is no surprise that many of his paintings have water-related scenes, since he lives along the shores of Lake Michigan. Keary Kautzer 1 resized

“Keary’s watercolors provide the viewer with the opportunity to explore a moment reflection on our shoreline and natural environments,” said Dr. Dionne Landgraf, associate professor of art at Silver Lake College. “His colors are rich and translucent, continuing the legacy of his mentor, Dr. James Michael, a strong advocate for working from nature.”

Kautzer feels that a career as executive director of WSCS, the Sheboygan community television station, has helped him transfer his visual experiences into his paintings.

He has won numerous awards for his work. Most recently, Kautzer’s 2017 painting, “Out to Pasture,” won the People’s Choice Award at the Paint the Town En Plein Air exhibition at Gallery 110 North in Plymouth.

Kautzer won the Best Male Artist Award at the 2016 Sheboygan Visual Artists Juried Art Show at EBCO Artworks gallery in Sheboygan.

He is a member of the Wisconsin Watercolor Society, the Wisconsin Plein Air Painters Association, and Sheboygan Visual Artists.

Katuzer’s paintings are represented at Two Fish Gallery in Elkhart Lake.
